Harry R. Ryman, a 43-year-old off-duty NYPD officer, was tragically killed on August 14, 1980, in Brooklyn, New York. The incident occurred around 3:40 a.m. when Ryman heard a commotion outside his home and discovered three men attempting to steal his neighbor's car. Acting on his duty as a police officer, Ryman confronted the suspects and identified himself as law enforcement.
