On a summer day in Buffalo, New York, the life of 35-year-old Joseph A. Hale was cut short in a fatal shooting on July 1, 2011. Hale, a white male, was found with a gunshot wound in the area of St. Paul Mall and Ellicott Streets and was pronounced dead at the Erie County Medical Center. The incident, which was quickly determined to be a homicide, was initially shrouded in mystery, leaving his family and community searching for answers.
