In the cool of a late September evening in 2014, the life of Niem Morales, a 22-year-old Black / African American man, was tragically cut short on the streets of his native Brooklyn, New York. On Thursday, September 25th, at approximately 9 p.m., the sounds of gunfire echoed at the corner of Logan Street and New Lots Avenue in the East New York neighborhood. When the chaos subsided, Morales was found lying on the pavement, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
