A dispute over a small debt between two onetime friends culminated in a deadly shooting in Schenectady. Jose Omar Sanchez, a 30-year-old man, was shot and killed outside of 832 Bridge Street in what authorities described as an execution stemming from a disagreement over $250. The man accused of the crime, Alex Rodriguez, 35, and Sanchez had been friends, and their children were acquainted with one another before the fatal falling out.
The shooting was particularly violent, with Sanchez
being struck more than a dozen times by shots fired from an assault rifle. The incident left the Mont Pleasant community shaken and prompted a thorough investigation by local law enforcement. In the wake of the shooting, Rodriguez was apprehended and charged with second-degree murder for his alleged role in Sanchez's death.
Following the tragic event, a further complication arose involving the victim's own family. Jose Sanchez's brother, Victor Sanchez, 28, was also taken into custody. Authorities charged him with hindering apprehension after he allegedly locked his brother's cellphone, preventing police from accessing potentially crucial information for their investigation. While dealing with the loss of his brother, Victor Sanchez was also stabbed in the back and chest at their shared Bridge Street home, adding another layer of tragedy to the already devastating situation. Alex Rodriguez was held in jail without bail as he awaited further court proceedings.
