The festivities were tragically cut short when gunfire erupted, sending attendees scrambling for cover. When the chaos subsided, Donovan was found with multiple gunshot wounds to his torso and legs. He was rushed to Brookdale Hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Another man, aged 28, was also shot in the arm during the incident but survived.
The New York Police Department's 63rd Precinct immediately launched an investigation into the shooting. Detectives determined that Bruce Donovan was not the intended target of the attack but rather an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire of a gang-related dispute.
