In the early morning hours of a September day in 2015, the life of a beloved Brooklyn cafe owner was tragically cut short. Rickie Young, a 37-year-old male, had recently opened his own restaurant, the 'Taste of Brooklyn Cafe,' in the Prospect-Lefferts Gardens neighborhood. Known to his friends as 'Brooklyn Tricky,' he was a new and welcome addition to the local business community.
On that fateful Friday, September 4th, at approximately 5 a.m., Young was sitting in his car on Lefferts
Avenue, not far from his home and just a block from the cafe he had poured his dreams into. It was then that he was ambushed and shot twice, sustaining wounds to his jaw and shoulder. In a remarkable display of fortitude, the gravely injured Young managed to drive himself nearly ten blocks to Kings County Hospital.
