The day unfolded with an argument between 45-year-old Eric Clay and his neighbor concerning a motor vehicle accident. This altercation escalated dramatically, leading to a fatal outcome for an innocent bystander.
The conflict between Clay and his neighbor intensified to the point where Clay retrieved a shotgun.
He fired a single shot at his neighbor, but the projectile missed its intended target. Instead, the shot struck Justin Crowder, who was in the vicinity but not involved in the dispute. Crowder was fatally wounded by the blast. The incident led to the immediate involvement of law enforcement, who took a person into custody shortly after the shooting.
Following an investigation, Eric Clay was arrested and faced multiple charges for his actions. On August 23, 2016, a judge found him guilty of Murder in the Second Degree, Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree, and Menacing in the Second Degree. Subsequently, on October 27, 2016, Clay was sentenced to 18 years to life in prison for the murder of Justin Crowder.
