A dispute that began at a family party ultimately led to the shooting death of 36-year-old Tarrell McKnight in Rochester, New York. On December 3, 2021, McKnight and Rashad Albert-Brown, then 29, were both in attendance at a family gathering when a heated discussion between the two men escalated into a physical altercation. The conflict did not end there, carrying over with tragic consequences into the following day.
On December 4, 2021, Albert-Brown returned to the home on Watkin
Terrace where the party had taken place, demanding to see McKnight. When Tarrell McKnight arrived at the residence, Albert-Brown shot him three times outside the house. Emergency services were called, and McKnight was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital for his injuries. Sadly, he succumbed to his wounds and passed away the next day.
The Rochester Police Department led the investigation into the homicide. Their work identified Rashad Albert-Brown as the suspect, and he was arrested for the murder by the U.S. Marshals Task Force in Geneva on January 20, 2022. Albert-Brown was charged with murder in the second degree. The case went to trial, and a jury convicted him of the charge. On February 27, 2023, a judge sentenced the 30-year-old Albert-Brown to 25 years to life in the New York State Department of Corrections. Prosecutors stated that the murder was the result of a 'petty argument and hurt pride.'
