On the night of June 25, 2024, at approximately 11 p.m., Rochester police responded to reports of a shooting near Barons Street and Weigel Alley on the city's northeast side. Upon arrival, officers discovered 39-year-old Leroy Bethel with a gunshot wound to his torso. Bethel was immediately transported to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries around 3 a.m. on June 26.
