On a warm summer evening in Brooklyn, the life of a beloved local figure was tragically cut short. Louis Barbati, the 61-year-old co-owner of the iconic L&B Spumoni Gardens, was ambushed and fatally shot in the backyard of his Dyker Heights home on June 30, 2016. The white male restaurateur had just returned from his famed pizzeria around 7 p.m. when he was met with a hail of bullets. His wife and two sons were inside the house at the time of the shooting.
