On a summer evening in Newburgh, New York, 29-year-old Deandric M. Little was shot and killed at the corner of South Street and Chambers Street on August 1, 2016. His death was the result of a directive from a local gang leader.
The investigation that followed involved the City of Newburgh Police, New York State Police, and the Orange County District Attorney's Office. Their efforts led them to identify 17-year-old Devin T. Isaac of Newburgh as the suspected shooter.
A warrant for Isaac's arrest on a charge of second-degree murder was issued. He was later apprehended in Staten Island, New York City, where he was allegedly found in possession of a loaded handgun. Isaac was subsequently returned to Orange County, arraigned in Newburgh City Court on the murder charge, and remanded to Orange County Jail without bail.
Further investigation revealed the involvement of Ardae Hines, also known as 'Young Money' or 'YM,' a leader of the Southside street gang. Hines, who was already in federal custody on other charges, was indicted for his role in Little's murder. It was alleged that on the day of the shooting, Hines had an argument with Little and then instructed Isaac, a juvenile member of the gang, to kill him.
In May 2023, Ardae Hines pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder in aid of racketeering and distribution of narcotics in connection with Little's death. As part of his plea, Hines admitted to orchestrating the murder by ordering the juvenile to shoot Little. He faced a potential sentence of up to 10 years for the murder conspiracy charge and up to 20 years for the narcotics trafficking charge.
