In the early hours of a Sunday morning in the Fort Greene neighborhood of Brooklyn, a life was tragically cut short. Akming Albritton, a 25-year-old male, was standing on the street at 15 N. Elliott Place when he was fatally shot on August 28, 2016. The incident was part of a violent night that saw multiple shootings and stabbings across New York City.
Police responded to a 911 call around 2:23 a.m.
and found Albritton, a resident of nearby Sands Street, unconscious and unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds to his torso. Emergency responders transported him to Methodist Hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
The assailant was described as a man wearing a bandana over his face and a dark-colored hat. He reportedly approached Albritton and shot him several times before fleeing the scene. At the time of the incident, the shooter was said to have been with a group of friends.
Despite the police launching an investigation into the homicide, no arrests have been made in the case of Akming Albritton's death, and the investigation remains ongoing. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and the case has grown cold, leaving a family and a community searching for answers and justice that have yet to come.
