In the late summer of 2016, the life of 19-year-old Manauris Davis was cut short in a sudden act of violence in the Hamilton Heights neighborhood of Manhattan. On the evening of September 5th, Davis was engaged in a conversation on a street corner near his home when a man reportedly ran towards him and fired three shots. The young man was struck in the torso.
Emergency services were quickly on the scene, and Davis was rushed to a nearby hospital.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The shooting took place outside of 554 W. 140th St. at approximately 9:50 p.m., a time when the city was still alive with activity.
In the days that followed the fatal shooting, the New York Police Department launched an investigation into the incident. Authorities reviewed surveillance footage from the area which captured the moments leading up to the shooting. Through their investigation, the police identified a suspect in the case.
Forty-two-year-old Pedro Valero was named by the police as the individual wanted in connection with the murder of Manauris Davis. Both Davis and Valero lived in close proximity to one another, within a two-block radius of where the shooting occurred, although the nature of their relationship, if any, was not publicly disclosed by the authorities at the time. The police described Valero as being 5-foot-9 and weighing around 200 pounds and asked for the public's assistance in locating him.
