Deborah J. Danner, a 66-year-old African American woman, was fatally shot on October 18, 2016, in her Bronx apartment by Sergeant Hugh Barry of the New York Police Department (NYPD). The incident occurred after police responded to a neighbor's report of "erratic" behavior. Danner, who had a history of mental illness, was known to the police due to previous encounters.
