A tragic end came for a mother of four on a Sunday morning in the Bronx. Jennifer Ortiz, a 27-year-old female, was fatally shot in the head while sitting in the passenger seat of a beige Chevrolet vehicle. The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. on Morris Avenue near East 191st Street in the Fordham Heights section of the Bronx. When authorities arrived at the scene, they pronounced Ortiz dead.
Witnesses reported a heated argument preceding the gunshot.
Ortiz was in the car with another man when her husband, 31-year-old Amauri Perdomo, approached the vehicle and a dispute began. According to one witness, Perdomo was heard yelling, 'You're my wife, why are you doing this?' before multiple shots were fired. The male companion in the driver's seat fled the scene on foot but was later contacted by police.
Following the shooting, the New York Police Department identified Amauri Perdomo as the primary suspect and released his description to the public. Perdomo, described as a Black male, approximately 6 feet tall and weighing 230 pounds, had a prior criminal record, including a weapons possession charge from 2009.
A manhunt for Perdomo concluded a few days later when he was taken into custody. He was subsequently charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon. Court documents identified him as the gunman who shot his wife and also alleged that he shot at the other man in the car in an attempt to kill him.
