McWhite, a male resident of Washington Heights, was walking south on Lenox Avenue, between West 127th and 128th streets, when he was fatally shot in the stomach at approximately 6:45 p.m. Surveillance footage captured the harrowing moment as he suddenly collapsed outside a restaurant.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting,
chaos and confusion descended upon the scene. Workers from a nearby restaurant rushed to McWhite's aid and quickly dialed 911. Emergency services transported him to Harlem Hospital, but his injury proved too severe, and he was pronounced dead.
