In the late afternoon sun of a Sunday in September, tragedy struck in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn. Near the basketball courts of the John Hancock Playground, 22-year-old Lester Jack was shot in the torso. The incident, which occurred around 4:00 p.m. at the corner of Hancock Street and Spencer Place, also left another man, aged 29, wounded.
