A tragic and violent end came to the life of Dominique L. Wilson, a 28-year-old Black man, in the autumn of 2021. The events leading to his death unfolded on the evening of Saturday, October 23, 2021, in Rochester, New York. Officers from the Rochester Police Department were called to the vicinity of North Clinton Avenue and Kohlman Street shortly before 10 p.m. for a report of a person shot. Upon their arrival, they discovered Wilson with at least one gunshot wound to his upper body.
He was transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The investigation into Wilson's homicide led authorities to a suspect, Markese L. Collins, who was 36 years old at the time of his arrest. The arrest took place on a Friday in late November 2021. Investigators determined that a verbal dispute between Wilson and Collins had escalated, culminating in Collins allegedly shooting Wilson. Following the shooting, Collins is said to have fled the scene. The Rochester Police Department's Major Crimes Unit was instrumental in identifying and apprehending the suspect.
Following his arrest, Markese L. Collins was charged with second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the death of Dominique Wilson. He was subsequently arraigned in Rochester City Court. The Monroe County District Attorney's Office took up the prosecution of the case. The charges against Collins indicated the authorities' belief that he was responsible for the fatal shooting that cut short the life of Dominique Wilson.
