On a Saturday morning, February 26, 2022, Juan Pena-Mendez, a 41-year-old man, was shot and killed while sitting inside his vehicle in a driveway on Rialto Street in Rochester, New York. The Rochester Police Department responded to a call for a shooting at approximately 11:15 AM and found Pena-Mendez deceased at the scene from gunshot wounds.
The subsequent investigation led by the Rochester Police Department identified Tyrone Jiggetts, Jr., a 28-year-old man who was on parole for a
prior weapon conviction, as the shooter. Authorities described the act as an ambush. Jiggetts was arrested and charged with the murder of Pena-Mendez.
In September 2023, a Monroe County jury convicted Tyrone Jiggetts, Jr. of Murder in the 2nd Degree and six counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree for the death of Juan Pena-Mendez. On November 8, 2023, Jiggetts was sentenced to 40 years to life in the New York State Department of Corrections.
