In the winter of 2019 in Syracuse, New York, the life of 36-year-old Kawon Monk Chavis was tragically cut short. On the evening of January 2nd, Chavis, also known as 'Monk,' was fatally shot in the hallway of an apartment building at the corner of South Salina Street and Corning Avenue. This violent act marked the city's first homicide of the new year. Emergency services responded to the scene, but Chavis succumbed to his injuries. A male, his death was a result of gun violence.
