In the early morning hours of June 9, 2019, the quiet community of Spencerport, New York, was disturbed by an act of violence that claimed the life of 35-year-old Timothy A. O'Neil. A male resident of a home on Forest Meadow Trail, later identified as Quinton O'Connor, placed a 9-1-1 call to report that he had shot and killed his roommate. When officers from the Ogden Police Department and Monroe County Sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene, they found O'Neil deceased from multiple gunshot
wounds.
The initial investigation led to the immediate detainment and subsequent arrest of O'Connor, who was also 35 years old at the time. He was charged with second-degree murder in connection with O'Neil's death. The case then proceeded through the legal system, and a grand jury handed down a sealed indictment against O'Connor, which included at least one felony charge. This indictment moved the case forward, bypassing the need for a preliminary hearing.
After more than two years of legal proceedings, a resolution was reached. On July 9, 2021, Quinton O'Connor pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of Manslaughter in the 1st Degree. As a result of his guilty plea, he was sentenced to serve 25 years in the New York State Department of Corrections, which will be followed by 5 years of post-release supervision. The conclusion of the case brought a sense of closure to the family and friends of Timothy O'Neil, who was remembered as a passionate and compassionate individual who would be missed by all who knew him.
