On the late night of September 11, 2025, 28-year-old Black male Shyhemm Lee stepped onto Lexington Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, where the grounds of the NYCHA Armstrong II Houses were still and dim. Just before midnight, gunfire shattered the quiet.
