On the night of August 16, 2019, Rakeem Edwards, a 31-year-old Black male, was fatally shot in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn. A resident of Queens and a father of two, he had just ended his shift as a FedEx driver before heading to the Marcus Garvey Houses to visit his mother. Edwards was the oldest of six children and made it a weekly habit to visit his mother in Brooklyn.
