Rakeem Edwards, a 31-year-old resident of Queens, New York, was tragically shot and killed on the night of August 16, 2019, in the Brownsville neighborhood of Brooklyn. Edwards was found with a fatal gunshot wound to the back of his head outside the Marcus Garvey Houses, a public housing complex. He had been visiting his mother, who lived nearby, and was ambushed shortly after leaving her home. Despite being rushed to Brookdale Hospital, Edwards was pronounced dead upon arrival.
