On March 10, 2024, at approximately 1:02 a.m., 40-year-old Lavel "Flip" Fraiser was fatally shot in the backyard of a building at 673 Sterling Place in Brooklyn's Crown Heights neighborhood. Fraiser, a father of 13, was known for his heroism in saving his family from a house fire in September 2023. He was discovered with a gunshot wound to his torso and was pronounced dead at Kings County Hospital.
