A 29-year-old Black male, Jeffrey S. Johnson, died on Thursday, December 12, 2019, in Poughkeepsie, New York, after sustaining a fatal gunshot wound. The events leading to his death began to unfold around 2:21 p.m. when City of Poughkeepsie police were dispatched to Livingston Street for what was initially reported as a rollover car accident. Upon their arrival, they discovered Johnson inside a vehicle that had veered off the road, struck a tree, and come to a rest in a snowbank.
