In the late hours of a Sunday evening in East Harlem, the life of 20-year-old Pond King was cut short by gunfire. On May 10, 2020, at approximately 11:03 p.m., police responded to a 911 call reporting a man shot on East 126th Street near Lexington Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered King unconscious and unresponsive, suffering from gunshot wounds to his torso and hip.
Emergency medical services rushed the young man to Harlem Hospital in a desperate attempt to save him, but his
injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead. King was a resident of East Harlem, and his death occurred about 20 blocks from his home. The New York Police Department has been investigating the shooting, but so far, no arrests have been made in connection with the homicide.
Authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or discussed potential motives behind the shooting. Reports indicate that King was a known member of the LA World gang and had a criminal record that included two arrests in 2019. One of those arrests was for allegedly shooting at a group of people, though no one was hit, and the other was for menacing an individual with a gun. He had been scheduled for a court appearance on those charges on July 2, 2020. The investigation into his death remains ongoing as authorities continue to seek information from the public to bring those responsible to justice.
