On the evening of May 13, 2020, a 31-year-old Black / African American man named Bernardo Bernard was shot and killed in his Brooklyn, New York neighborhood. The incident occurred at approximately 8:23 p.m. near the intersection of 93rd Street and Clarkson Avenue in the East Flatbush section of the borough. Police from the 67th Precinct were alerted to the sound of gunfire by the ShotSpotter system, a network of acoustic sensors designed to detect and locate gunshots.
