Just a week after celebrating his eighteenth birthday, Anthonio 'Tony' Alexis, a young Black man from Brooklyn, New York, found his life tragically cut short. On the night of August 6, 2020, Anthonio was with a group of friends in the Flatbush neighborhood when violence erupted. According to police reports, two individuals exited a vehicle in front of 2116 Regent Place and opened fire on the group.
The sudden hail of bullets created chaos and left three people wounded.
Anthonio suffered a catastrophic gunshot wound to the head. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, where he fought for his life for several days. Tragically, his injuries proved to be insurmountable. After detecting no brain activity, doctors pronounced him brain-dead, and he was removed from life support on August 12, 2020. The two other victims of the shooting, a 21-year-old male shot in the stomach and a 26-year-old male shot in the knee, survived their injuries.
In the wake of the shooting, the community and Anthonio's family were left reeling from the senseless act of violence. His parents, Hanson and Jackie Alexis, who are natives of Carriacou, Grenada, have been vocal in their grief and their calls for justice for their son, a recent high school graduate with his whole life ahead of him. Despite the ongoing investigation by law enforcement, there have been no significant developments in the case. To date, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with the murder of Anthonio Alexis. The case remains unsolved, a painful open wound for a family and a community still searching for answers and accountability.
