Tylee Felder, a 24-year-old Black man from Brooklyn, New York, was remembered by his younger brother as a caring person who was well-known and loved in his neighborhood for his generosity. His brother, Tyshawn, said Tylee was always there for him and that his death left him broken. Tyshawn believed his brother was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
On the afternoon of September 8, 2020, two men took a car service to the Clinton Hill neighborhood.
At approximately 3:39 p.m., wearing hoods and masks, they walked through the Lafayette Gardens housing complex, entered a building on Dekalb Avenue from the rear, and emerged from the front entrance to ambush Tylee Felder. They shot him six times, including a fatal wound to the head. After shooting Felder, one of the gunmen fired into a nearby crowd, wounding two innocent bystanders—a 23-year-old man shot in the leg and a 24-year-old man shot in the chest. Both men survived. Tylee Felder was rushed to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries the following day.
The investigation was part of a larger, multi-year probe into the “900 street gang.” Investigators determined that the shooting was an act of gang retaliation and that the gunmen had incorrectly targeted Felder, believing he was involved in a prior shooting. Detectives identified one suspect, Alexander Williams, from a unique arm tattoo visible on surveillance footage. Williams, then 24, was arrested in late 2020. The second suspect, 21-year-old Wydeem Rudd, was arrested in February 2021.
Williams, a member of the 900 gang, and Rudd, a gang associate, were charged with murder, attempted murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. Their case was part of a 77-count indictment against 19 alleged members of the gang, who were accused of committing numerous acts of violence.
On November 25, 2025, following a jury trial, both Alexander Williams and Wydeem Rudd were convicted of second-degree murder, attempted murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. On April 13, 2026, Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Donald Leo sentenced both men to 45 years to life in prison.
