On December 20, 2014, Wen Jian "Joe" Liu, a 32-year-old NYPD officer, was tragically killed in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. Liu, along with his partner Rafael Ramos, was on routine patrol, sitting in their patrol car at the corner of Myrtle and Tompkins Avenues. The two officers were ambushed by Ismaaiyl Abdullah Brinsley, a 28-year-old gunman who had traveled from Baltimore with the explicit intention of killing police officers.
