In the early morning hours of Sunday, September 13, 2020, a 27-year-old male, Ezequiel 'Zeke' Rivera, was fatally shot in the Bronx, New York. The incident occurred at approximately 9:16 a.m. in front of 1760 Bruckner Boulevard. When police from the 43rd Precinct arrived at the scene, they discovered Rivera with a gunshot wound to his chest. He was rushed to Jacobi Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
The investigation into the shooting led authorities to identify a suspect in the
case. An argument over a woman is believed to have preceded the deadly gunfire, according to police sources. For several months, the suspect remained at large.
In February 2021, a breakthrough in the case came when 42-year-old Jameel Campbell of the Bronx was identified as the individual wanted in connection with Rivera's death. Through a cooperative effort between multiple law enforcement agencies, including the DEA and the Atlantic City Police Department, Campbell was located and arrested in Atlantic City, New Jersey. He was taken into custody without incident and charged as a fugitive from justice before being extradited to New York. Upon his return, Campbell was formally charged with murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon.
