On a cold Thanksgiving night in the Bronx, what should have been a time for celebration turned into a scene of tragedy. On November 25, 2021, 22-year-old Yefri Jimenez, a male resident of the Bronx, was fatally shot in the Soundview neighborhood. The incident occurred at approximately 9:51 p.m. in front of a business located at 1521 Westchester Avenue.
Responding to a 911 call, police officers from the 43rd Precinct arrived to find Jimenez with a gunshot wound to his abdomen.
Emergency medical services promptly transported him to Jacobi Hospital, but tragically, his life could not be saved, and he was pronounced dead.
The immediate aftermath of the shooting was filled with uncertainty as police had limited information about the motive or the events leading up to the violence. Investigators believe three individuals were involved in the murder, fleeing the scene westbound on Westchester Avenue on two different mopeds. One of the suspects was described as an unidentified male who fled on foot after firing the weapon.
In the days following the shooting, the New York City Police Department appealed to the public for assistance in identifying the suspects. They released surveillance photographs and video clips of the individuals wanted in connection with the murder. Despite these efforts, as of late November 2021, no arrests had been made in the case, and the investigation remained ongoing.
