In the fading daylight of a Tuesday evening in New Orleans, on September 20, 2016, the life of 38-year-old Travon Williams was cut short by gunfire. The fatal encounter took place on Desire Street, a name that would become tragically ironic for a family that had already known the profound grief of violent loss. Williams, a father of four, was in the St. Claude neighborhood when the sound of gunshots shattered the evening calm. When the echoes faded, he was left mortally wounded.
