In the early morning hours of February 27, 2021, a dispute outside a Speedway convenience store on Maple Avenue in Elmira, New York, turned fatal. Shamal I. Gladden, a 44-year-old male, was not initially involved in the verbal confrontation that had broken out between two groups of people. He had arrived at the location separately.
