On a summer evening in Elmira, New York, tragedy struck at Pulaski Park. Yasean J McQueen, a 31-year-old male, was fatally shot on Monday, June 9, 2025. The shooting was one of two separate firearms incidents that occurred within about 15 minutes of each other that night, unsettling the city. In total, five people were shot across the two locations, with McQueen being the only fatality.
The incident that claimed McQueen's life happened at approximately 8:00 p.m.
Law enforcement responded to reports of gunfire and discovered the chaotic scene. The other four victims from the two shootings sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were expected to recover. Elmira Police officials have stated that they believe the two shootings were isolated incidents and are not connected.
In the aftermath, police identified 22-year-old Jayzell McCoy as a suspect in the second shooting, which took place on the 900 block of Oak Street near Maxwell Place. McCoy was subsequently arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon. He was on New York State Parole for a prior weapons conviction at the time of his arrest. Authorities have indicated that more charges against McCoy could be forthcoming.
The investigation into the death of Yasean J McQueen is ongoing, and as of now, no arrests have been made in connection with his homicide.
