On the night of May 20, 2024, at approximately 10:52 p.m., the Elmira Police Department responded to reports of a shooting outside Gush's Thirsty Bear, a bar located at 351 East Washington Avenue in Elmira, New York. Upon arrival, officers found no victim at the scene. It was later determined that the victim, identified as 43-year-old Norman D. Cherry, had been transported to a local hospital by private vehicle prior to police arrival. Tragically, Cherry was pronounced dead at the hospital.
