Thomas Marrinan, a 57-year-old retired NYPD officer, tragically lost his life on June 7, 2021, in Brooklyn, New York. The incident occurred outside Korner Pizza on Church Avenue and East 3rd Street in the Kensington neighborhood. Marrinan and his friend, Robert Velasquez, were attempting to intervene in a situation where Michael Soto, a 33-year-old man, was harassing an 86-year-old man named Luis Velasquez, Robert's father.
