In the summer of 2021, a burst of gunfire shattered the evening calm in a southwest Rochester neighborhood, tragically ending the life of 20-year-old Madison Boorom. The shooting unfolded on June 21, 2021, near the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Dr. Samuel McCree Way. Madison was struck multiple times in her upper body. She was rushed to the University of Rochester Medical Center, where she fought for her life before succumbing to her injuries the following day, June 22, 2021.
A 22-year-old man was also injured in the incident but was later released from the hospital.
The Rochester Police Department's investigation into the double shooting led them to believe it was not a random act of violence, but rather a targeted attack. Investigators revealed that over 20 gunshots were fired in a crowded area near a school, where children were present at the time of the incident. Despite the numerous potential witnesses in the vicinity, the chaotic scene hampered the immediate identification of any suspects.
