Nykim Young, a 15-year-old freshman at the Institute of Technology in Syracuse, NY, tragically lost his life on June 23, 2021. On that evening, Nykim was shot in the upper part of his body near Lower Onondaga Park at the intersection of Rich Street and Marginal Street. The shooting occurred around 6:30 p.m., and despite efforts to save him, Nykim died at the scene. His death marked the 12th homicide in Syracuse for the year 2021, highlighting a troubling trend of violence in the city.
