In the early morning hours of a summer Thursday in Manhattan, the life of 28-year-old Joel Vasquez was tragically cut short in a brazen act of violence. On July 22, 2021, in the Inwood neighborhood, Vasquez was sitting in his car near the corner of Sherman Avenue and West 204th Street when he was targeted by assailants intent on robbing him of his jewelry. When he resisted their demands, he was shot. Emergency services rushed him to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved fatal.
