In the early morning hours in Washington Heights, a burst of gunfire shattered the quiet of a residential street. When police responded to a 911 call around 12:38 a.m., they found 26-year-old Derrick Johnson lying unconscious and unresponsive on the pavement in front of 469 West 164th Street. The young man, a resident of the Bronx, had been shot in the back and ankle.
