On a warm evening in Harlem, Manhattan, on September 4, 2021, a young Southwest Asian man of Indian descent named Kuldip Singh was going about his work as an Uber driver. At 21 years old, he had been in the United States for three years and had only recently started the job to support his family. As he was driving with a mother and her son, his life was irrevocably altered by a violent encounter unfolding on the street.
