In the borough of Queens, a 20-year-old man named Brandon Rodriguez was fatally shot on September 24, 2021. The incident occurred near the intersection of 102nd Road and 84th Street in Ozone Park, just steps from his home. Rodriguez had just parked a car and was walking down the street when an assailant emerged from another vehicle and fired multiple shots, striking him all over his body.
He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The shooting left a family devastated, including a young toddler who is now without a father. Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz commented on the senseless gun violence that has caused immense grief within the community.
An investigation conducted by the 102nd Precinct Detective Squad and the Queens South Homicide Squad led to the apprehension of a suspect in Buffalo, New York. The suspect was identified as 22-year-old Dwayne Scott. Following his arrest, Scott was returned to Queens to face charges related to the shooting. A Queens grand jury indicted him on charges of murder in the second degree and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree. If convicted, he could face a sentence of up to 25 years to life in prison.
