In January 2022, the disappearance of 34-year-old Justin Lee from Centereach, New York, ended in a grim discovery and a subsequent murder investigation. Lee, a male, was last seen leaving his residence on North Washington Avenue on the afternoon of January 18th. An acquaintance reported him missing three days later, sparking a search that concluded tragically on January 28th. His body was found in a wooded area near the North Shore Rail Trail in Rocky Point.
The autopsy would later reveal that he had been fatally shot.
The investigation into Lee's death quickly led authorities to a suspect, Glenn Seejattan of Rocky Point. Evidence presented during the legal proceedings painted a chilling picture of Lee's final moments. Prosecutors stated that Lee was last seen alive at the home Seejattan shared with his mother. It was there that a drug transaction went horribly wrong, leading to Lee being shot in the head and thigh in what was described as an 'execution-style' killing. After the murder, Seejattan discarded Lee's half-naked and frozen body in the nearby woods, about a half-mile from his home.
Glenn Seejattan was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. During his trial, compelling evidence was presented against him, including witness testimony and DNA evidence. A witness testified that Seejattan had admitted to the killing, describing it as a 'drug deal gone bad.' Furthermore, Lee's DNA was found on a wall inside Seejattan's home, and damaged wood moldings found near Lee's body matched damage within the residence. Text messages sent by Seejattan, in which he boasted of plans to become a 'serial killer,' were also read in court. Despite his defense attorney's claim that the killing was in self-defense, the jury deliberated for only 30 minutes before finding him guilty of second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
In April 2023, Glenn Seejattan, who was 30 years old at the time of sentencing, was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison. At the sentencing, the judge noted that Seejattan showed no remorse for the killing, only regret for having committed the crime inside his house and for having to burn an expensive coat afterward. It was also revealed that Seejattan was out on bail for a separate weapon possession charge at the time of the murder. His defense attorney stated their intention to file an appeal.
