On a cold February morning in Brewerton, New York, the quiet of a Riverview Road home was shattered by violence that would leave a family irrevocably broken. Twenty-one-year-old Troy Eames, a senior at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, was tragically killed on February 7, 2022. The promising young man, known for his kind and sensitive soul, was found with a fatal gunshot wound to his head.
The ensuing investigation by the New York Attorney General's Office of Special Investigation unraveled a horrifying family tragedy. It was determined that Troy's father, Isaac Eames, an off-duty Onondaga County Sheriff's Office Civil Deputy, was the perpetrator. In a devastating turn of events, Isaac Eames fatally shot his son and the family dog before taking his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The violence also left Troy's mother, Karen Eames, seriously wounded from gunshots. It was her frantic 911 call that brought deputies to the home, where they discovered the grim scene. Despite her critical injuries, Karen survived the attack.
A comprehensive investigation, which included a review of security video footage and crime scene analysis, confirmed that Isaac Eames was solely responsible for the murder of his son. The medical examiner officially ruled Troy's death a homicide and Isaac's death a suicide. As the person responsible for Troy's death was also deceased, the Office of Special Investigation concluded that no charges could be filed against any living person. The motive for the murder-suicide has not been made clear. The community was left to mourn the loss of a young man described as a 'Momma's Boy' who was cherished by his family and friends.
