In the early morning hours of May 14, 2021, the life of Stebbin Herbert Drew, a 37-year-old Black / African American male known affectionately as 'Scooter,' was tragically cut short in Jersey City, New Jersey. Drew was discovered suffering from gunshot wounds near the parking lot of the City Crossings apartments on Merseles Court and Bright Street at approximately 1:50 a.m. Emergency services rushed him to the Jersey City Medical Center, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into Drew's death moved forward, and authorities announced that three men had been taken into custody in connection with the fatal shooting. The identities of the suspects were not immediately made public as the investigation continued. The community was left to mourn the loss of Drew, who was remembered as a loving father to his two daughters.
His passing was a significant blow to his family and all who knew him.
Drew himself had a past encounter with the legal system. In 2018, he was a defendant in a first-degree armed robbery case stemming from incidents that occurred in July 2015. Despite his past, his death was a tragedy that left a void in the lives of his loved ones, who remembered him as a reliable friend and family member, always willing to help those in need. The community responded with an outpouring of grief and a call for justice for a life taken too soon.
