In the early morning hours of July 21, 2016, the life of 28-year-old Javon Murray was tragically cut short on a street in Jersey City. At approximately 2:45 a.m., Murray was discovered on Clinton Avenue, having sustained a single, fatal gunshot wound. The bullet entered the back of his neck and exited through his cheek. He was pronounced dead at the scene just five minutes after being found.
Authorities from the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation into the
shooting. Their findings suggested that robbery was not the motive for the attack, as Murray was found with money still in his hand. The investigation led them to Justin Garcia, who was identified as the individual responsible for Murray's death. It was determined that Garcia had lured Murray to the location where the shooting occurred.
Justin Garcia was subsequently arrested and charged with the murder of Javon Murray. Following a jury trial, Garcia was convicted of the crime. In June 2018, the 27-year-old Jersey City man was sentenced to life in prison for the killing. Under the terms of his 75-year sentence, Garcia will be required to serve 64 years before becoming eligible for parole.
