In the early morning hours of a Saturday in Jersey City, the sound of gunfire shattered the pre-dawn quiet on Randolph Avenue. When police responded to the reports of shots fired at approximately 3:15 a.m. on November 20, 2021, they discovered a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his torso and lower extremities. The victim was identified as 24-year-old Rashaun Bell, a male resident of Jersey City.
Emergency medical services arrived at the scene, located at 116 Randolph Avenue,
and quickly transported Bell to the Jersey City Medical Center in a desperate attempt to save his life. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, his injuries proved too severe. Rashaun Bell was pronounced dead at approximately 3:50 a.m., less than an hour after he was found. The cause of his death was later determined to be the result of the gunshot wounds he sustained.
The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Unit, in conjunction with the Jersey City Police Department, immediately launched an investigation into the fatal shooting. In the initial stages of the inquiry, authorities did not release information about a potential motive or any individuals who may have been involved. As of the days following the incident, no arrests had been made in connection with the murder of Rashaun Bell, and the investigation was described as ongoing.
