On the afternoon of Sunday, January 29, 2017, at approximately 1:30 pm, first responders were called to the 1900 block of 7th Street. There, they found Terrell lying face down, a victim of a gunshot wound. Though he was still alive, the injury was severe. He was rushed to the University Medical Center, a place of hope that would soon become the setting for his family's profound grief. As news of the shooting spread, Terrell's sister, Erica Alphonse, received a devastating phone call and hurried to the hospital, praying she would make it before he closed his eyes for the last time.
At the hospital, the family's worst fears were realized. The doctors delivered the grim news that Terrell showed no signs of brain activity. It was a heart-wrenching reality for his loved ones, who could now only wait. Erica leaned close to her brother, whispering her love and sorrow for not being able to protect him. Two days later, on January 31, 2017, Terrell's heart stopped beating.
