In the late summer of 2022, a quiet street in Hastings, New York, became the scene of a heart-wrenching family tragedy. On September 3rd, the lives of the Teeter family were irrevocably shattered by an act of violence that left two brothers dead and a community in shock. Thirty-year-old Kyle R. Teeter, a male, was found deceased inside a residence on Speach Drive, the victim of a fatal gunshot wound. The tranquility of that Saturday afternoon was broken at approximately 12:58 p.m.
when his parents, who were outside the home, heard the sound of gunshots. Their immediate call to 911 brought State Police troopers to the grim discovery.
Upon entering the residence, law enforcement found not one, but two victims. Alongside Kyle lay his younger brother, 27-year-old Colin B. Teeter, also deceased from a gunshot wound. The preliminary investigation swiftly pieced together the harrowing sequence of events. It was determined that Colin had used a rifle to shoot and kill his older brother, Kyle, before turning the weapon on himself in an apparent murder-suicide. The motive behind this tragic act remains unclear, leaving a void of unanswered questions for a grieving family and community.
The investigation into the deaths of Kyle and Colin Teeter has not led to any arrests, as the sole suspect in Kyle's death was his brother, who took his own life.
